The performance of the U.S., workers’ compensation system remains healthy according to the 2022 metrics by the NCCI.
Workers’ compensation premiums increased 11% in 2022, highlighting a return to a similar premium level as 2019, $47.5 billion.
Private carriers produced their ninth consecutive year of underwriting profitability with a Calendar Year 2022 combined ratio of 84.
It is the sixth consecutive year with a combined ratio below 90 for the workers’ compensation insurance market.

Pennsylvania moves forward with workers’ comp bill

A bill that would fix a loophole in the state workers’ compensation law concerning permanent disfigurement moved forward.
The state’s House passed of Representatives passed H.B. 930 which would extend workers’ compensation to cover any worker who is disfigured on the job, no matter where the injury occurs on their body.
Under current law, only disfigurement to the head, neck, and face are covered.
State Rep. Tim Brennan said the measure will help pipefitters, firefighters, nurses, and workers from other professions who were permanently disfigured in accidents.
