Alabama Pols to Try Again on Workers’ Comp for Teachers

• The sponsor of failed legislation that would give Alabama public school system employees workers’ compensation coverage will refile the bill in the next state Senate session.
• Education employees currently must cover the cost of injuries out of their own pocket before seeking a reimbursement from a state adjustment panel, which decides how much the injured employee gets.
• The sponsor, state Sen. Sam Givhan (R-Huntsville), said it comes as a surprise to many people that teachers and other public education employees don’t have worker’s compensation insurance.

Kentucky Bill Aimed at Adding Psychological Coverage

• A Kentucky legislator wants to add psychological injuries to the state’s workers’ compensation coverage.
• Rep. Lindsey Burke (D-Lexington) plans to file legislation in the 2025 session to make that happen. Similar bills have been filed in the past but failed to pass.
• State law currently specifies that only physical injuries can be covered under the Kentucky WC system.
