Overcrowding Blamed For Violence Surge At Winnipeg Hospital 

  • An on-call doctor was the latest employee to be assaulted at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.  
  • The Manitoba Nurses Union says the hospital has seen 812 workers’ compensation claims from assaults on nurses in the past year. 
  • The union says the hospital’s emergency department is operating at more than 200% capacity and has been for days.  
  • The hospital is implementing 24-7 police patrols to stem the violence and protect workers.

NAIC Names New Communications Director 

  • The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) appointed Melissa Jackson to be the association’s new director of communications. 
  • Jackson’s hire was announced following the appointment of Jeff Johnston to be NAIC’s Interim CEO. Johston replaced former CEO Gary Anderson who left to pursue other professional endeavors.  
  • Jackson was vice president of public affairs for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City prior to joining NAIC.
