Nebraska correctional worker injured
- An employee for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services was injured in an assault.
- The inmate refused directives and tried to physically maneuver around the staff person.
- When the staffer attempted to restrain the inmate, the inmate punched the staff member in the head numerous times.
- The injured worker was taken to a hospital with a serious injury and the incident is under investigation.

N.Y. small businesses could see an increase in workers comp costs
- A bill in New York that would change workers’ compensation requirements could mean additional costs for employers.
- Under the proposal, an injured employee is considered to have a temporary total disability if he is unable to perform previous duties or if the employer cannot provide another job duty that’s consistent with the limitations of the injury.
- Even a partially disabled employee will receive full benefits, which is about two-thirds of the employee’s average wage if employers can’t find a light-duty desk job for them.
- The bill is headed for Gov. Kathy Hochul’s desk.

Illinois construction workers shot
- Two road construction workers in Illinois were seriously injured on the job after being shot by juveniles.
- A flagger was struck in the back of the head and another worker who came to assist the flagger was hit in the chest, according to police.
- Both were taken to a hospital and later transferred to receive treatment for injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, police said.
- Two juveniles were arrested, processed, and released to guardians, and a high-powered air rifle was seized, police said.
