Louisiana introduces grants for workers’ comp

  • The Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corp. will provide up to $2,500 for the organization’s 20,000 active policyholders through the Safety Grants Program.
  • The funds are for safety projects or the purchase of specialized equipment.
  • Applications will be accepted until July 22 and are available online at lwcc.com/safety-grants.
  • The money can also be used for programs or equipment that will increase workplace safety and decrease the risk of accidents.

West Virginia gets new court of appeals

  • The new West Virginia Intermediate Court of Appeals officially will handle civil cases that otherwise may or may not be heard by the state Supreme Court of Appeals, including workers’ compensation issues.
  • The court includes a three-judge panel that will determine which cases require oral arguments and may merit the higher court.
  • The court will be based in Charleston, W.V., but those involved in cases may not need to travel to the city.
  • One of the reasons intermediate courts are established is to help ease the burden on state supreme courts.
