Ohio worker sentenced for fraud
- The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s Special Investigations Department announced that Roy Love had pleaded guilty to one count of workers’ compensation fraud, a fourth-degree felony.
- Love was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $12,128 to the BWC and sentenced to four years of community control.
- BWC’s Special Investigations Unit established Roy was employed with three different employers while collecting BWC disability benefits. The investigation found Love worked and received benefits.
- Love pleaded guilty to one count of workers’ compensation fraud, a fourth-degree felony, and was sentenced to four years of community control and 11 months in prison if the terms are violated.
Tennessee launches physicians training program for workers comp
- Traditional medical training does not always cover the issues physicians encounter when treating a workers’ compensation patient.
- As a result, the Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation created the Certified Physician Program (CPP) which provides the specialized training needed to treat injured workers.
- The centerpiece of the Certified Physician Program (CPP) is a free, online, self-paced, training course designed to teach physicians additional skills to help them treat and evaluate injured workers.
- In exchange for accepting workers’ compensation patients, certified physicians are eligible to receive enhanced fees for initial and follow-up visits and for giving final impairment ratings.
Worker injured during mansion explosion
- A construction worker was injured during a fire at a mansion in Franklin, Tenn.
- The man called 911 after there was an explosion in the building and he was trapped inside the home.
- He was taken to a local hospital for his injuries but is expected to survive.
- Flames spread quickly and caused the roof to collapse before firefighters were able to get it under control.
