Insurers Question Need to Indemnify Homeowners After Caregiver Received WC Benefits

  • LM General Insurance Company and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company have requested a declaration that there is no duty to indemnify two homeowners for injuries suffered by a children’s caregiver who fell on stairs in their home in June 2020.
  • The caregiver, injured in the course of her employment, was awarded workers’ compensation benefits via the Massachusetts Workers’ Compensation Trust Fund and filed a separate personal injury lawsuit against the homeowners.

  • The Massachusetts Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council will meet virtually today (10/9) at 9 am ET.
  • Among the agenda items is Executive Director Maureen O’Connell’s FY 2024 Annual Report and member appointments.

  • Case management services firm Integrix said Tuesday that it will use WorkCompCollege.com for training of both new hires and existing employees.
  • Specifically, Integrix will use the CompStart Onboarding program, which is specifically designed to provide new employees with an introduction to the workers’ compensation industry. 
  • The program is also tailored to address the needs of experienced professionals, ensuring a consistent standard of knowledge and practice across the company, Integrix said.
