
Health care workers face most risks
- Hospital workers suffer nearly twice as many workplace-related illnesses and injuries as their counterparts in other industries, according to OSHA.
- Employees at hospitals are also the most vulnerable to suffering illnesses and injuries on the job.
- Nursing assistants suffer from lower back pain and other musculoskeletal injuries as a result of moving patients.
- The high-stress environment of health care facilities can lead to mistakes that result in injury.

New workers comp statute takes effect in Arizona
- Insurance firms and self-insuring employers must receive written notification of an injury from an injured employee who intends to file a worker’s comp claim under a new Arizona bill.
- Upon receipt of such notice, the firm must forward the written notification to the Industrial Commission of Arizona within seven business days.
- The companies must also and inform the employee of the employee’s requirement to file a claim with the commission.
- The new form for the insurance company and/or a self-insuring employer to file such a written notification should be available on the ICA website.

Workers comp could decrease in Connecticut
- The NCCI in Connecticut has proposed an overall average change of -3.0% to the current voluntary loss costs and no change to the current assigned risk rate level.
- The new rates would take effect on Jan. 1, 2023.
- The voluntary loss costs change varies by industry group, including reductions of 5.3% in office/clerical; 4.6% in contracting; 2.8% in goods and services; and 2.5% in manufacturing.
- In the assigned risk market, NCCI said an increase in expenses of about 3% was offset by a similar improvement in experience.

Worked killed by semi
A dock worker was struck and killed by a semi-truck at Diversey Solutions in Elsmere, Kentucky.
David Poe, 58, was struck by the semi as it backed up to a parked trailer at a loading dock.
Poe was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was not injured and remained on the scene until first responders arrived.
