
Canadian WC Boards Back Workplace Cancers Research
- Canada’s provincial workers’ compensation boards are backing an effort to combat workplace-related cancers launched by that country’s Cancer Society.
- The program involves 14 WC boards and labor unions from across the country,
- An estimated 10,000 Canadian workers are diagnosed with occupational-related cancers, according to the group.
- Seven research projects will receive a total investment of CA$1.38 million.
- The funded projects will address a range of occupational cancer risks, including exposure to asbestos, solar UV, diesel exhaust, crystalline silica, radon, and the impacts of shift work.

Ear Loss Now Eligible Injury as New Colorado WC Disability Benefits Kick In
- Key provisions of disability benefits for workers’ compensation injuries in Colorado took effect on Wednesday, including the addition of the loss of an ear to the list of injuries eligible for medical impairment benefits.
- Disability benefit claimants can refuse modified employment. They are no longer considered responsible for their termination if they refuse an offer of modified employment that would either require traveling 50 miles more than their preinjury commute or breach driving restrictions issued by their authorized treating physician.
- As of Jan. 1, 2025, Colorado law now imposes an increase on the caps for combined temporary and permanent disability payments.
- For claimants with an impairment rating of 19% or less, the cap will increase to $185,000. For claimants with an impairment rating of more than 19%, the cap will increase to $300,000.
