AGs Score $86 Million Opioid Settlement With Indivior

• A group of state attorneys general has reached a $86 million multi-state settlement in principle with drug maker Indivior for its role in fueling the opioid epidemic.
  
• The deal concerns Indivior’s manufacture of buprenorphine-based products designed to treat opioid abuse, but which allegedly can fuel addiction if misused.
• The settlement will provide $86 million to participating states over five years, and will be used for opioid addiction treatment, recovery, and prevention programs.
• The attorneys general of New York, Illinois, Tennessee, Utah, and Virginia negotiated the settlement announced July 26, in in coordination with an executive committee of attorneys general of 10 other states, including California, Massachusetts and Ohio .
• A 2018 report described prescription opioids as the biggest workers’ compensation problem in terms of controlling the ultimate cost of indemnity losses.

NY WC Agency Updates OnBoard Payers Functionality

• The New York State Workers Compensation Board said it is updating its OnBoard web-based claims platform on Aug. 8, expanding the options to allow payers to request insurer review or reassign the claim sender of a prior authorization request.
• It has refreshed the payers training modules, according to the bulletin published Friday.
