Disbarred Applicant’s Attorney Arrested For Theft 

• A Tallahassee attorney was arrested for stealing a $45,000 workers’ compensation settlement check from a client. 

• Gus Soto is facing grand theft charges for allegedly forging his client’s name on a settlement check and pocketing the money.  

• Soto was disbarred in 2022 after being accused of not disseminating nearly $400,000 to five other clients.

Nova Scotia Board Addresses Psych Injuries 

• The Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia says that work-related mental stress is a growing concern for the workers’ comp system. 

• System worked to develop a definition for gradual onset psychological injuries (GPIs).  

• Most GPIs stem from workplace bullying and harassment.

Missouri’s Workers’ Comp Rate Tick Up 

• The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance says that the state’s 2026 workers’ comp loss costs will increase on average by 1.3%. 

• The filing by the National Council on Compensation Insurance shows that loss costs for manufacturing are up 2.9% while the contracting sector will see only 0.3% increase.  

• “Although we’re seeing a small uptick in rates this year, the overall trend continues to show that Missouri workplaces are safer, and costs remain well below historical levels,” DCI Director Angela Nelson.
