Second Workers’ Comp Office Closed in NY as System Consolidates

The New York State Workers’ Compensation Board will close its Plattsburgh customer service center on May 4.
The agency said most hearings now occur virtually, reducing the need for smaller regional offices.
In‑person appointments for the area have already been handled through the Albany district office.
The closure follows a similar consolidation involving the Jamestown office last year.

A Ross County woman was ordered to repay more than $55,000 after investigators found she collected workers’ compensation disability benefits while working at multiple retail jobs.
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation opened the case after receiving a complaint about her employment status.
Records show she pleaded guilty to workers’ compensation fraud in Franklin County.
She received a suspended 12‑month sentence and five years of nonreporting community control.

Pennsylvania Approves Workers’ Comp Rate Decrease

The Pennsylvania Insurance Department approved a 1.22% reduction in loss costs used to set workers’ compensation premiums.
The filing, submitted by the Pennsylvania Compensation Rating Bureau, took effect April 1 for new and renewed policies.
Officials said the change is expected to lower premium costs for many employers.
Workers’ compensation benefits and coverage requirements remain unchanged under the updated rates.
