Nonprofit Safety Grants Awarded in Texas 

  • Texas Mutual Insurance Company is doling out $4.4 million in a second round of funding to help nonprofits with workforce development and safety training. 
  • The funds are being shared by 58 organizations around the state. 
  • Texas Mutual has handed out nearly $9 million this year through the request for proposals (RFP) initiatives. In July, the carrier awarded $4.5 million to 66 organizations.

Alberta Employers Get Some Workers’ Comp Rate Relief 

  • The Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board approved a $0.05 rate subsidy for their workers’ comp premium next year. 
  • Costs, however, are still going up. The average rate is increasing from $1.41 to $1.46. 
  • Absent the approved subsidy, area employers would be paying an average rate of $1.51.

New Oregon Insurance Commissioner 

  • TK Keen has been tapped by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services to be Oregon’s next insurance commissioner. 
  • Keen has been acting insurance commissioner since June. 
  • As insurance commissioner Keen will also oversee the operations of the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation that regulates the state’s insurance industry.
