Migraine Meds on Rise in Pain Management

Migraine medications are being used more frequently in workers’ compensation-related pain management, according to the initial installation of Enlyte’s 2025 Drug Trends Report.
Payers are also spending less on the most popular therapeutic drug classes ranked by workers’ comp spend, according to the report.
“In 2024, the workers’ compensation prescription landscape continued to be shaped by guideline-supported trends in pain management and ongoing cost impacts from specialty drugs and high dollar analgesics,” Enlyte said.
The report found that opioid utilization consistently declined across all categories, while topicals and migraine medications experienced increased costs driven by rising brand AWP and higher utilization.
Enlyte is a provider of claims software and cost containment solutions to the workers’ compensation industry.

The tool generates predictive insights and segments future risks, offering cost estimates based on each employee’s unique health profile to quantify the true cost of absence.
