Roofing Boss Gets 5 Years Probation in Death Cover-up

• The owner of a New York roofing contractor was sentenced last week to serve five years probation for trying to cover up the death of an employee on the job. He was also ordered to pay an unspecified fine.
• Jeremiah Wiedemann, the owner of Wiedemann Sons Roofing, earlier pled guilty to tampering with physical evidence, a Class E felony, and failure to secure workers’ compensation.
• The investigation of the incident revealed that the victim had not been injured at the location reported by Wiedemann, but rather at another construction site where Wiedemann’s company was replacing a roof. 
• It was further determined that Wiedemann had moved the victim to a local spillway to conceal that the victim had been working for him at the accident site when he was killed.
• Local police and the New York State Inspector General’s office conducted the investigation.
• “This defendant went to egregious lengths to conceal his decision to prioritize profits over people, rather than complying with the law to protect workers in the event of workplace injury,” said New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang, in a statement.
