Yellowstone actress charged with felony fraud
- Q’orianka Kilcher, an actress from the TV show “Yellowstone,” has been charged with two felonies.
- Kilcher, 32, of North Hollywood, allegedly collected nearly $97,000 through a workers’ compensation fraud, even though she was still able to work.
- She has been charged with two felony counts of workers’ compensation insurance fraud after she received $96,838 in temporary disability benefits between 2019 and 2021, the California Department of Insurance said.
- Kilcher allegedly collected the funds for several months while she was working on the set of “Yellowstone.”
Bill would bar courts from charging fees for online records
- A new proposal would require a court to make public court records that are maintained in an electronic format available to the public for inspection and copying at a courthouse during hours when the courthouse is open to the public.
- The bill would require a court to provide remote access to all public court records about civil cases, including registers of actions, calendars, and indexes, that are maintained by the court in an electronic format, as specified.
- The proposal would also prohibit a court that provides the public with remote access to these records from charging a fee to search for, download, or copy public court records.
- The bill would authorize a court to charge a fee to a commercial user for viewing, searching, duplicating, downloading, or printing public court records in an electronic format.
Insurer must pay $2.4 million to a truck driver who lost both legs
- A federal appeals court affirmed a lower court ruling and held that RLI Insurance Co. must pay a $2.4 million settlement to a worker who lost both legs following an accident and did not have workers’ compensation coverage.
- Ryan Marshall was seriously injured while working as a truck driver at a plant in Duquesne, Pa., when the accident occurred.
- Marshall had stepped out of his flatbed truck when others were loading large metal pipes onto it and a worker accidentally ran a forklift into the pipes, causing one of them to dislodge and roll off the truck.
- The pipe crashed into Marshall as it fell and doctors had to amputate both of his legs, leaving him disabled.
Florida garbage worker killed
- A worker was killed while performing maintenance on a garbage truck in Florida.
- Leroy Firestone, 59, was standing on a ladder and performing maintenance on the hydraulics of a garbage truck.
- The door on the side of the truck activated and it closed on Firestone’s head, according to the sheriff’s office.
- Firestone was pronounced dead at the scene by rescuers and the death appears to be accidental, investigators said.
