Google Search Case Could Upend WC Law Marketing

Last week’s Google antitrust ruling could reshape the channels that workers’ compensation lawyers market their services.
A federal judge ruled on Aug. 5 that Google had acted illegally to maintain a monopoly in online search.
“Changes in the search engine landscape could alter how law firms, including those specializing in workers’ compensation, market their services online. If Google’s dominance in search advertising is reduced, attorneys might need to adapt their digital marketing strategies,” wrote attorney and WC blogger Jon Gelman.
In a review of Google Trends on Wednesday, Workers’ Comp Advisor found that search interest in the term “workers comp lawyer” consistently ranked above average for the last 12 months in U.S. searches.
Interest was highest for the period in Kansas, Vermont and New York.

Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance (KEMI) will pay out a $19.1 million dividend to eligible policyholders later this month.
More than 12,000 policyholders will receive a 20% dividend payment from KEMI for the 2021 policy year, according to its statement.
The workers’ compensation insurance provider last year paid a $15.9 million dividend.
“Our policyholders’ commitment to safety in the workplace is why we can distribute this dividend,” stated KEMI President and Chief Executive Officer Jon Stewart.
The company has issued dividend payments to policyholders totaling $104.7 million over the past 14 years, it said.
